Product viewSpiral Wound Gasket with Centering Ring
The centering ring aids alignment and helps limit compression
This design has a metal centering ring around the spiral wound sealing element. The ring locates the gasket within the flange bolt circle and helps limit compression of the winding. It is a common configuration for raised-face flange joints.
- AlignmentThe centering ring centers the gasket between the bolts
- Compression controlHelps control the compression of the winding
- MaterialsMetal strip and filler chosen for the service conditions
Features
- The centering ring assists installation and alignment, helping position the gasket correctly.
- The ring helps control compression of the spiral wound sealing element.
- Winding and filler materials can be selected for the service conditions.
- Available for standard flanges and in nonstandard configurations made to equipment drawings.
Materials & configurations
| Component / Item | Material Options and Specification Details |
|---|---|
| Winding strip — common materials | Stainless steels including 304, 316L, and 321 |
| Winding strip — special materials | Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy C-276 (UNS N10276); nickel-molybdenum alloy B-2 (UNS N10665); commercially pure titanium Ti Gr.1 and Ti Gr.2; duplex stainless steel UNS S32205; super duplex stainless steel UNS S32750; nickel-copper alloy 400 (UNS N04400) |
| Winding strip specification | Grade, strip condition, thickness, width and forming options selected for the application |
| Filler | Flexible graphite, PTFE, mica, ceramic fiber, and other specified fillers |
| Centering ring | Carbon steel, stainless steel, or another specified material |
Standards & supply options
- ASME B16.20, EN 1514-2 or EN 12560-2, selected for the mating flange and rating system. Nonstandard sizes and constructions to drawing.
Typical applications
- Raised-face flange joints in oil and gas piping.
- Piping and equipment flanges in refineries, chemical plants, and power stations.
- Connections on pumps, valves, compressors, and general pressure equipment.
Selection & service notes
The centering ring assists alignment and compression control; this construction has no inner ring. For PTFE filler to ASME B16.20, select inner and centering rings. Graphite filler normally also uses an inner ring, with configuration selected to the applicable standard.
